Shirley made her senior international debut against Canada in Soth Africa in January 2007. Her first major selection was for the European Championships in 2007 with further selections occurring for the Olympic Games Qualification Tournament in 2008; and Champions Challenge II and European Championships in 2009. Shirley currently has 71 caps (19 Aug 2009).

Shirley has won the Ulster Winemark Shield with Randalstown.
