Tim made his senior international debut against Wales in the Celtic Cup in 2004. His first major selection was for the World Cup Qualification Tournament in China in 2006 with further selections occurring for the European Championships in Manchester in 2007; Champions Challenge II in Dublin in 2009; and European Nations Trophy in Wrexham in 2009. Tim has 86 caps and 18 goals.
Tim has won the U18 European Championships in 2002; European Nations Trophy in 2009; Irish Senior Cup in 2003 and 2005; All Ireland Club Championships in 2005; and was Ulster Hockey Player of the year in 2005.
