Aileen Morrison Takes Bronze

19 July 2010

SINI Triathlete Aileen Morrison took BRONZE today at the ITU Dextro Energy World Championship Series in Hamburg, Germany.

This result is yet another great step for Morrison, who's fifth place at the European Championships in Athlone two weeks ago was until today the best result ever achieved by an Irish triathlete

“I feel like I’m in a dream right now—I seriously do. I don’t know what just happened,” Morrison said. “That is by far the best finish of my career. To be in a sprint with Emma and Lisa was unbelievable. I couldn’t be happier right now.”

Aileen Morrison is only a relative newcomer to the sport, who was discovered a few years ago within the age group racing scene in Ireland. The Derry girl has been working very closely, under Coach Chris Jones, with the performance staff at the Sports Institute of Northern Ireland, whose commitment to her performance has played a large role in this achievement.

This result makes Morrison, who receives funding from both the Irish Sports Council and Sport Northern Ireland, Triathlon Ireland's hottest prospect for the London Olympic Games in 2012, and is a significant milestone in what has already been a pivotal year for Triathlon Ireland.
