Four SINI athletes named in initial Commonwealth Games Squad

Four Sports Institute Northern Ireland (SINI) athletes have today been named in the initial Northern Ireland squad to travel to Delhi in October 2010 to take part in the Commonwealth Games.

Squash star Madeline Perry, Bowlers Jennifer Dowds and Sandra Baillie and Cyclist David McCann were confirmed as squad members earlier today.

Madeline Perry who has been receiving specialist support from SINI staff for 6 years has reached the British Open final and World Open semi-finals over the past 18 months and is firmly established in the world's top 10 as she enters the Commonwealth Games for the 4th time.

SINI Bowler Jennifer Dowds took Bronze at the World Championships in 2008 and also at the Atlantic Championship in 2007 while Sandra Bailie was part of the Irish Team who finished 2nd (joint) in 2008 International Series and 11th at World Cup in Australia in 2009. The women bowlers will make challenges in the pairs and a triples.

Cyclist David McCann has also been selected and has had some terrific form recently including winning the Tour of Phillipines and last month McCann won the opening stage of the Tour of Taiwan.
