SINI Golfer Michael Hoey has claimed his second European Tour title, with victory in the Madeira Islands Open yesterday.
The Belfast man had been sharing the overnight lead with England’s Jamie Elson, but a final round of 71, which saw him sink birdies on the eighth and 14th holes after dropping a shot at 13 , saw Michael finish on 10 under – two shots clear of nearest rivals Elson and Chris Gaine.
Reflecting on the win, 32-year-old Hoey, who won the Estoril Portuguese Open in 2009, commented:
“It was just very, very tough. I had to dig really deep, especially after I hit one in the rocks on 13, and I thought ‘that's it now, I've thrown this thing away completely’.
“It's a crazy game. But I somehow managed to make a good swing on the third shot and holed the putt for bogey which was huge, it kept me in it.”
SINI would like to congratulate Michael on his fantastic result.
