Congratulations to SINI Swimmer Sycerika McMahon who has claimed gold at the 2011 European Junior Swimming Championships in Belgrade.

Sycerika’s win in the 50m Breaststroke, following on from her Bronze medal win in last year’s Championships, came after an impressive performance in the earlier rounds. The Leander swimmer qualified fastest in the morning heats, and fastest again in the semi-finals with a commanding time of 32.05 that saw her finish 0.17 seconds ahead of her nearest rival and set a new Irish Junior record in the process.
Sycerika’s winning form culminated in the final, when she touched the wall ahead of a strong field in a time of 32.00, securing her gold medal and setting yet another record time, this one the Irish Senior record.
Speaking on McMahon's success, Swim Ireland’s National Performance Director Peter Banks said: 'It is a great start for Sycerika and the entire Irish team in Belgrade. This is what we were hoping for after her successes last year and congratulations to both her and her coach Bobby Madine.'
Next up for Sycerika is the 200m Butterfly final, which she heads into in fifth place after setting a new personal best time 2:15.22 in the semi-final.
