SINI Foundation Programme

09 July 2009

Background to Foundation Programme

Sport Northern Ireland, in partnership with SINI, has developed a foundation programme for aspiring athletes.

The purpose of the programme is to build a major link in the Sport Northern Ireland performance pathway and a structured progression route for athletes to join SINI.

To facilitate this progression selected services will be delivered to young athletes at three Performer Development Centres.

SINI will employ staff to deliver these services and educate potential athletes who aspire to succeed on the world stage. By offering localised, monitored programmes based on needs analysis Sport Northern Ireland and SINI hope to raise awareness of Performance Planning before the best of these athletes “graduate” into the SINI environment.

In summary, the objectives of the PDC programme are to provide access to:-

  • Quality Strength & Conditioning support
  • Performance Science services including Nutrition
  • Sports Medicine services (eg. Screening, Physiotherapy support etc)
  • Performance Skills / or vocational support

The initial Pilot Performer Development Centres will be located in:-

  • Cookstown
  • Belfast
  • Lisburn

Process for Application:

Nominations for places on the Pilot Performer Development Programme will be considered on an annual basis as an integral part of the Athlete Support Programme from Olympic, Paralympic and Commonwealth Games Governing Bodies of Sport.
