Physiotherapy
Intervention
As
part of the athlete induction a team of physiotherapists carry
out an extensive musculo-skeletal profile. Based on this all staff
are informed of the programmes needed for each athlete and advised
when they can start accessing services such as strength and conditioning.
In
partnership with the University of Ulster's school of rehabilitation
science, Phillip Glasgow has been appointed as head physiotherapist.
Phil has extensive experience working with elite players
through his employment with the Ulster Rugby team.
Phil employs additional physiotherapists to meet Institute
demands for the clinic, which operates for 18 hours (5 sessions)
each week.
Institute athletes at Jordanstown also benefit from massage
provided by final year students on the course. These masseurs
are available during some of the physiotherapy sessions
and work under the direction of the lead physiotherapist.
