Sports
science represents the disciplines of biomechanics, nutrition,
performance analysis, physiology and psychology. The field of
sports science is extremely dynamic and often receives publicity
when cutting edge equipment or clothing designs are released.
Yet, sports science can also play a vital role in assisting athletes
and coaches prepare effectively for competition and ultimately,
increase their chances of success. This can only be achieved through
daily interaction, from which innovative research and manipulation
of specific training and dietary regimes often emerges.
The
sports science support provided by the human performance staff
at the University of Ulster comprises an integral component of
the programme of services offered to SINI athletes. This integrated
approach enables a comprehensive support service to be provided,
tailored to suit the individual performance goals and specific
needs of each athlete. The service is specifically geared towards
helping athletes to realize their true potential through an enhanced
level of understanding and application of the biomechanical, nutritional,
physiological, psychological and performance aspects of their
sport.
